TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite Aug –After almost a year of absence from his mayoral post, the Local Chief Executive of General Mariano Alvarez town Mayor Walter Echevarria officially announced his resignation relinquishing the position to her daughter Maricel Echevarria Torres on Tuesday, 3 August 2021.
“Buhat ng pagbabago sa aking kalusugan, ako po ay lubos na nagpapakumbabang iwan ang aking pwesto upang kayo po ay mapaglingkuran ng mas tapat at nararapat,” wrote Mayor ‘Etsi’.
(Due to the change in my health, I humbly leave my position so that you can be served more faithfully and appropriately.)
On same day, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla officially sworn into office Mayor Maricel E. Torres and Vice Mayor Angela Lenin Paycana as they took their oath of office as top officials of the municipal government of GMA.
It can be recalled that on October 27, 2020, the 73 year old mayor announced filing for official leave of absence for three months until January 26, 2021 due to health reasons and upon the recommendation of his doctor.
Since then, Vice Mayor Torres assumed the position and responsibility as Acting Mayor of the town with Atty. Paycana as Acting Vice-Mayor with which they efficiently and diligently performed the duties consequential to the needs of their constituents and the demands of the New Normal amidst the pandemic.
“Nawa ay patuloy po ninyong suportahan ang mga proyekto at programa ng lokal na pamahalaan para sa ikauunlad ng bawat indibidwal sa ating bayan. Ako’y lubos na naniniwala na ang susunod sa aking naumpisahan at magpapatuloy ng aking misyon ay ang karapat-dapat para sa bayan,” appealed Mayor Echevarria to his constituents.
(May you continue to support the local government projects and programs for the development of every individual in our town. I firmly believe that whoever will follow what I have started and will continue my mission is worthy to lead this town.)
Echevarria started in government service when he served as Barangay Secretary of Area J in 1972, then as town Councilor for six years, served as Vice Mayor for three years, and elected as Mayor from 2001-2010, and re -elected and served in 2013 up to the present. Philippine Information Agency
