DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao: At least 61 households from a residential area here are under temporary lockdown after many residents turned out positive from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) swab tests.

Mayor Cheryl Mary Rose Ann Sinsuat said Wednesday she ordered restricted access to the 4th Road of the SPDA Subdivision in Barangay Semba due to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

“We will give them the necessary aid during the lockdown,” the mayor said, adding that the lockdown, which took effect Tuesday, will end on June 8.

Datu Israel Sinsuat, the town administrator, said a resident in the area earlier died from the virus, prompting mass testing on neighbors with whom the fatality came in contact recently.

“Quite a number of them (residents) turned out positive from the virus. They are now under quarantine at a local isolation facility,” he said.

He urged town residents to strictly abide by minimum health protocols to prevent being infected by the virus.

The town currently has 33 Covid-19 active cases.
