MARAWI CITY, May 18–Focusing on installing awareness about cerebrovascular disease or commonly known as stroke, the Community and Family Services International (CFSI) spearheaded a psychosocial education targeting internally displaced persons (IDPs) who became stroke patients along with their caregivers.
The health discussion aims to inform the participants on the signs and symptoms, causes, and treatment for stroke.
Amal Edres, focal person of CFSI-Marawi Satellite Office, shared that this intervention is part of the three components of the organization’s laid out Marawi Recovery Project comprising livelihood, protection and psychosocial support.
Further, the organization firmly pushed for a lecture about stroke as based on their census and study, more IDPs are prone and suffering from it since the siege up until this time’s pandemic.
“Kasali sa intervention plan namin ang magconduct ng psychoeducation sa kanilang condition para alam po ng family nila tsaka mismo ng client paano imanage iyong cases, iyong pagrecover ng clients sa kanilang condition, paano nila madetect kung magkakaroon ba ng another stroke,” said Edres.
[Conducting psychoeducation about their condition is part of our intervention plan so that their family may know and the clients specifically how to manage their cases, the recovery of the clients from their condition, how they can detect if another stroke will likely to happen again.]
She also stressed that the CFSI’s initiative is dedicated to its beneficiaries and the organization only expects their cooperation in return.
“Ang lahat ng purpose namin bakit namin ito ginagawa is para sa kanila and hindi namin kayang tulungan sila kung hindi nila kayang tulungan ang sarili nila, kung hindi sila makikipagcooperate sa amin. And Alhamdulillah, nagpaparticipate naman sila,” Edres firmly emphasized.
[All our purpose for doing this is for them and we cannot help them if they cannot help themselves, if they do not cooperate with us. And Alhamdulillah, they are participating.]
Meanwhile, participants delivered their sincerest thanks to CFSI for the extensive outreach in their community.
“Maraming salamat po sa CFSI sa kanilang suporta sa iba’t ibang pamilya… Marami po silang naitulong sa aming IDPs,” expressed Norhaynie Ali, caregiver of her 65-year old mother who suffered from stroke three times.
