ILIGAN CITY: Maranao leaders asked Health Secretary Francisco Duque to resign for allegedly mishandling the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Bayan Balt, head of Ranao Federal movement and former chapter president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) in Lanao del Sur and Marawi City said the Senate was right when they asked for the resignation of Duque in his failure to handle carefully the coronavirus crisis.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque said lifting of quarantine for low risk provinces was “honest mistake” as Malacanang officially announced.

Duque said he agreed to affix his signature as he was told that the resolution will not identify the areas where the community quarantines would be lifted.

“Mr. Secretary Duque, we will not accept your honest mistake but we will accept your resignation,” Balt said.

Youth leader Abulkhair Alibasa said this just shows that the national government does not have concrete plans from the start. “Mass testing pa lang, failure na sila,” added Alibasa.

Datu Casan Cana said this is inexcusable. President Duterte should cast his iron hand versus Duque. There is no more reason for him to stay as health secretary, he added.

This is not the first time that Duques resignation was sought.

Sometimes in March, concerned netizens called for his immediate resignation to save the country from the coronavirus (COVID-19) scourge.

They assailed in particular the DOH’s ineptitude and sluggishness in handling COVID-19 tests which they said as the main cause of growing cases as the agency allows possible virus carriers to freely roam and infect more people before they can be tested accordingly.
