Bacolod Kalawi in Lanao Sur intensifies campaign vs Covid-19

BACOLOD KALAWI, Lanao del Sur: Local government authorities in this lakeshore municipality of Bacolod Kalawi in the province of Lanao del Sur has recently created the Bacolod Kalawi Task Force against the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) to prevent its spread and transmission in the locality.

Municipal authorities led by Mayor Nora L. Dipatuan formed on Sunday the task force at the same time conducted an intensified information campaign about the deadly virus with the municipal rural health unit headed by its chief Dr. Noor-hanifa Anshary at the lead.

Mayor Dipatuan said the task force is created for the welfare of the public and pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 922 which placed the country under state of health emergency.

“It is for our best interest to take care of ourselves and to follow instructions from higher-ups in regards to this COVID-19,” she added.

When asked whether graduations in schools within the town be pushed through, Dipatuan said she just got information that it was suspended. “No graduation or moving up to be conducted for the safety of our children,” she pointed out.

Rural health chief Dr. Anshary said there is a problem on hospital accomodation of patients who would be tested or even suspected positive because of the lack of facilties in our medical hospitals.

She mentioned that only a couple of beds are available at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC), the only medical center in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur. “This problem may result to more mortality,” she stressed..

Anshary advised the residents to take care of their personal hygiene to help prevent this virus or avoid being infected.

“Sekitano den a pembaloya doktor a ginawa tano, “ she said. (We will be the doctors of ourselves.)

“Iligtas tano a ginawa tano. Sowaan tano so kapamangonab a pesabonen oman oman, di tano peliyo go ditano pezong ko bendagan sa tao,” added Anshary. (We save ourselves. We do the regular handwashing with soap. Let us not go out and go to crowded place.)

She also advised for adjusting food intake and eat more food that enhance immune system.

Three weeks earlier, nurses and health workers visited different villages in the municipality to monitor how the constituents fare with the deadly virus.

More medicines, facemasks, alcohol needed

Dr. Anshary said they found out the need to procure more medicines, facemasks, alcohol, and for everyone to take care of each other.

For the safety of the residents, they should not come to the RHU or health center, she added.

“Kung ano ang problema nila, tawagan na lang kami at ihatid ang mga kailangan gamut sa kanilang lugar,” Anshary said, adding that even taking of blood pressure should be conducted at their places.

LGU will do its best to contain local transmission of the virus

Mayor Dipatuan said the municipal government will exert all efforts and assured the constituents to provide the needed help in order to ensure the safety of the constituents.

The meeting held at the town’s covered gymnasium was attended by barangay chairmen, municipal officials, the Philippine National Police, line agencies, religious leaders, sultans and datus, women and youth sectors, and stakeholders. (With Hja. Aisha B. Otical/RSP)
