Dawlah Islamiyah supporters surrender, yield firearm in Lanao Sur

CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur: A supporter and a courier of the Dawlah Islamiyah – Maute Terrorist remnants voluntarily surrendered to Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion in Brgy Gacap, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The surrender happened two days after the encounter that transpired in the boundaries of Piagapo and Balindong last Friday.

The two were identified as Farhan Salik, known as @Orak, 20 years old, and Alimoden Maunada, 38 years old.

“The negotiations was made possible by Salic Dimasangkay, an MILF Commander, and Usman Amboloto, the brgy Chairman of Dado, Balindong, Lanao del Sur”, said Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, 82nd Infantry Battalion Commander.

The duo also yielded one Caliber 30 M1 Springfield Garand Rifle.

Custodial debriefing is still on-going as of this posting.

According to Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander, who has operational jurisdiction of Lanao del Sur “We continuously encourage DI- Maute remnants, other local terrorist groups and their supporters to surrender and submit themselves to the folds of the law”.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Generoso “Gene” Ponio, Commander of the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces), commended the efforts of the troops for the successful surrender of the DI-Maute supporters.

“Your 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, remains steadfast in its commitment to attain just and lasting peace in our area of operation thru our campaign against local terrorist groups, lawless armed groups and loose firearms,” said Ponio.

“Likewise, we thank the local government and MILF forces for their continued trust and support to our troops in contributing peace and development in the whole province of Lanao del Sur,” Ponio added.
